Opening A Can of Worms
By Marley Bonacquist-Currin
Siena College makes it well known that Siena Saints Serve. My proposal is that we should serve the environment as well as people. I plan to change our currently small, unknown compost pile into a vermicomposting system that will process food waste from around campus. Not only will this be a better environmental solution to the problem of waste, but also it will provide soil, and an educational opportunity for students, campus clubs and the community at large.
Through a partnership with the Environmental Club, our food service provider, and maintenance, we should be able to create, maintain, and execute such a system with low costs, and ease of operation. The following plan provides steps and rationale for start-up and continuance, even after I graduate. Click here to read Marley’s full action plan.
