I am incredibly grateful to be a student at CELL because it has already given me countless opportunities to expand my knowledge and self-awareness. I am learning how to live a more sustainable lifestyle and to be more aware of my personal impact on the environment. An opportunity that I thoroughly enjoyed has been the way that Cell encourages me to access creative outlets in my own life. During my time here so far, I have created several watercolor paintings, made different kinds of pottery in the ceramics workshop, and prepared delicious dinners for the other members of the learning community. We have participated in a number of unique learning opportunities, like visiting Andri Snær Magnuson and staying overnight in a real Icelandic turf house. These experiences have encouraged me to keep a detailed journal. I have found that this activity has allowed me to more successfully process the information we are receiving as well as helping me document my reaction to these experiences. I also think this will help me better share my experiences and continue to build on these lessons when I return home and throughout my life.
I am so thankful that Cell has encouraged me to be more engaged in these creative outlets than I normally would be, and I can’t wait to see what I create during the rest of the semester and beyond.
