The Action Plan is to develop a native grass garden directly and visibly on the University of Michigan campus. Although several native plant reserves already exist on university property, they are often located far off campus where uninterested students would never venture. Thus, the purpose of the garden is to teach and engage students on the natural systems and services of native flora in Michigan. Additionally, the garden’s purpose is to expose the University of Michigan administration to how native grasses can be more beneficial than non-native grasses since native flora often require less water and fertilizer. A series of student groups will be approached about contributing in the design, planning, and construction of the garden. The garden’s location and construction will occur within the next year, being completed by late summer 2016. Click here to read Samuel’s full action plan.
