5:30am. My alarm goes off and it’s time to start another day at Sólheimar.

After breakfast, morning meeting, and class, we went to the village’s developing forest. Our instructions were simple: find a secluded spot and take in your surroundings. I made my way through forest and found a dry spot to sit down.

Breathing fresh air and hearing the sound of leaves rustling against the wind was something I have experienced many times before, but cannot get enough of.  The momentary feeling that everything was fine in the world was then replaced by a sense of overwhelming guilt. Nature is always waiting for us to enjoy it. It always invites and accepts us with open arms, even though we are destroying it. The experience reminded me of “The Giving Tree”. Not only does mankind take advantage of nature, it also denies the action of doing so. After that, we were called to return to the group and continue with our walk.

On our way to the river, we found small footprints imprinted on the snow. It was probably an Arctic Fox, and the thought of seeing one excited me to no end. We didn’t get a chance to see one, but the rest of the walk was amazing. We took some pictures by the river and then everyone made their way back to the village. I decided to stay back while everyone walked. I put my headphones on and listened to some music, something that love doing when I’m in nature.
